mixolydian

Mixolydian mode is a variation on the typical Major Scale. It is clearly “happy” in colour and has been used in many songs such as Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine”.
  • To play Mixolydian mode on a piano, just play all the white notes, starting on G.
  • The mode consists of notes with the intervals: T-T-S-T-T-S-T
  • As an example, make sure that F is at the top of the circle. You can see that in order to play an F mixolydian scale, all you need to do is play an A# major scale, but starting / concentrating on the F.
  • To see what notes are in an F mixolydian scale, click, make sure that A# is at the top of the circle. A# has two sharps in it’s major scale, A# and D#. As does F mixolydian.
  • To play a song in F mixolydian, you would generally play any or all of the chords from A# major, but centring around the F, so: F, Gm, Adim, A#, Cm, Dm, D#
  • Tab for guitar
