Dorian is a slightly darker sounding mode, with a sense of sadness and struggle at times, only occasionally hinting on hope and happiness.
- To play dorian mode on a piano, just play all the white keys, starting on D.
- The mode consists of notes with the intervals: T-S-T-T-T-S-T
- As an example, make sure that G# is at the top of the circle. You can see that in order to play a G# dorian scale, you would play all the notes from F# major scale, but starting or concentrating on a G#
- To see what notes are in a G# dorian scale, make sure that F# is at the top of the circle. The notes for G# dorian are: G#, A#, B, C#, D#, F, F#
- To play a song in G# dorian mode, you would generally play chords from F# major, but concentrating on the G# minor, so: G#m, A#m, B, C#, D#m, Fdim, F#
